The use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has recently broadened into many areas of human activity, including the gaming sector. From an artistic standpoint, given its operational methods, AI has indeed encountered substantial criticism. Therefore, game developers employing this technology can expect varied responses.

Takuro Mizobe, the CEO of PocketPair, has offered his views on the AI-based game his studio created two years ago and the current developments in AI.

The CEO of Palworld is well aware of the inevitable presence of AI and is very cautious about its role in game development. During an interview with GameSpark, he expressed his views on generative AI in games and whether they plan to utilize it in the future.

Takuro Mizobe, CEO of PocketPair, stated, “AI is currently in a phase of transition. While many people find it remarkable from a technological standpoint, it is also not accepted from an artistic perspective and in terms of its learning methods.” Then, he was asked about AI: Art Impostor, an AI-based drawing game he developed in 2022, which can be played by three to eight players.

According to their admission, AI: Art Impostor was developed at a time when generative AI seemed poised for rapid growth. They believed it was essential to work on it and hoped it would be well-received by the audience. However, it ended up receiving mixed reviews on Steam.

Desiring to Maintain a Healthy Distance from Technological Advancements

“We are here to create entertainment. So, I don’t want us to chase after something that ends up making people unhappy. I want us to keep a healthy distance from technological advancements,” the CEO stated.

He also clarified that his studio has never employed AI in the creation of character models amidst widespread speculation that PocketPair used AI to develop Palworld.
