Electronic Arts Reveals The Sims Project Rene as a New Mobile Game

Project Rene, one of EA’s latest initiatives, was announced during the Behind The Sims Summit in 2022. It is widely expected to serve as the “younger sibling” within the upcoming future of the The Sims franchise.

Recently, EA, in collaboration with Maxis, announced that this project would be one of their newest games developed for mobile devices.

Details About The Sims: Project Rene

In a recent update on their official website, EA and Maxis announced that Project Rene is officially defined as a “social, collaborative life simulation game designed for mobile platforms,” allowing players to enjoy multiplayer experiences, explore the game’s world, and stay connected with one another.

There isn’t much information available yet, especially regarding the gameplay. However, one of the pre-alpha versions was showcased featuring the The Sims Labs logo, which is likely an initial glimpse of Project Rene. Below is an overview of what was shown:

Nevertheless, EA indirectly conveyed that the launch of this new project will not replace The Sims 4, which has been their main focus since its release in 2014, as there will still be a new expansion available for players through that game.

Through this report, it is revealed that upcoming games will differ from previous plans. Additionally, the term “mobile-first” indicates that the games will primarily be designed with a focus on mobile devices.

There is a possibility of The Sims 5

In addition to Project Rene, EA also revealed that Maxis is working on “The Sims with a new experience” for multiple platforms, including PC and consoles, with an emphasis on single-player gameplay.

This is supported by the official announcement titled “The Sims 4 and its future developments,” which suggests that a new game in the series is in the works. This speculation arises because Maxis has not released any new titles since the 2013 remake of SimCity.

However, this is only speculation for now, as the post appears to be primarily about The Sims Labs preparing to offer some players the opportunity to participate in playtests for the project’s early prototype.
