Pokemon Let’s Go Sales Skyrocket In Japan

Wondering how big Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu!/Eevee! is in Japan? Here are some numbers which pretty much speak for themselves.

According to Famitsu (via Gematsu), the game managed to sell 664, 198 copies in its first three days of release. For perspective, the current top game for most sales in 3 days of release is Splatoon 2

which reached 670, 955.

In other words, Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu!/Eevee! came about 7 thousand units shy of breaking the record for fastest selling game in three days. The above numbers include “physical game copies, Poke Ball Plus Packs, download cards, and Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Pokémon: Let’s Go, Eevee! Switch hardware bundles.”

It’s worth noting that digital sales were not included in that number – something if added could dramatically change the total sales picture.

More interestingly, Gematsu notes that Switch hardware sales between November 12 and 18 – the days surrounding the release of Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu!/Eevee! – reached an astonishing 180, 585 units. This is roughly three times the number of the previous week, giving a bit of credence to what I expressed about Nintendo exclusives and the sales generating power they have for consoles.

Again, given the massive hype surrounding the release of Smash Bros. Ultimate, it will be very interesting to see if the game is able to claim the record for highest 3-day post release sales. Similarly, Nintendo investors are probably just as curious as I am to see if the sales of Switch consoles jumps dramatically in response to its release.
