The Timesplitters IP was just acquiring by Kock Media, a European company owned by THQ Nordic. For those of you who’ve never heard of the cult favorite title, Timesplitters was a critically acclaimed 1st person shooter that came out in 2000. It is often one of the games people mention along with legendary Rare titles Goldeneye and Perfect Dark, when discussing the best shooters of that decade. Considering that the game was created by a group of ex-Rare employees, it’s no wonder the game was so good. Now that Koch Media has acquired its rights, they’ve already begun work developing a new game for the franchise.

According to Gamesindustry.biz, Koch CEO Klemens Kundratiz is a big fan of the series. Here’s what he had to say about their recent acquisition of Timesplitters:

“We are hugely excited to have acquired Timesplitters. The original games gave fans a massive content offer and provided a pure and genuinely fun arcade shooter experience. We have many fans of the Timesplitters series among our own staff who are passionate about creating a product that will thrill today’s gaming audience.”

As the name notes, Timesplitters featured a time-travel theme allowing players to do battle in numerous locations across different periods of time. Aliens seeking to destroy Earth attempted to do so by using “time crystals” to travel to different periods in Earth’s history. By changing certain events in history, they hoped to push humanity to its own ruin.

The franchise spawned three official games, for the PS2, Gamecube, and the Xbox. There was also one fan-made title that was given the official rights and released in 2017.

While the previous games featured a continuing story, it remains to be seen whether the new titles developed by Koch Media will be a continuation of the story from the last official game or a completely new one.
