This Week’s 5 Best Trailers

This Week’s 5 Best Trailers

Nothing quite gets those hype juices flowing like an announcement trailer. In that spirit, we’ve scoured through the best and the worst trailers from the past week, sorted the weird and the wonderful, to offer five of the best efforts.

Bee Simulator

Bee Simulator is the type of game we never knew we needed, but now that it’s a reality, well, there’s no turning back. The game marries the genuine daily activities of bees, such as gathering pollen and protecting the hive, with looser interpretations of what a bee’s life involves like racing. Bee Simulator not only looks incredible, but the bee-eye view of a re-imagined Central Park is breathtaking. Inter-species warfare (screw those wasps), avoiding pesky humans, waggle dancing, coop, Bee Simulator seems to have it all. We can’t wait to bee part of it all.

Storm Boy: The Game

Short, whimsical, and featuring a heartwarming friendship between a young boy and a pelican: what’s not to like? Inspired by the novel of the same name, Storm Boy is marked as an exploration game about a young Australian who saves a baby pelican and nurtures him to adulthood. A game about friendship and the simple things in life.

Atlas

More a leak than a certified announcement trailer or teaser, Atlas is an open-world seafaring pirate MMO from the studio behind Ark: Survival Evolved. Or is it a DLC for Ark: Survival Evolved. No one is quite sure though the models and assets seem distinctly similar. Regardless, Atlas appears a vibrant place, full of danger and unexpected turns. Though a little rough around the edges, we presume the video is more of an internal teaser rather than something purposefully created for the wider public.

Flipping Death

What happens once we all take our last breath is a conundrum that has eluded humans for millennia. In the cartoon-esque side scrolling platformer, Flipping Death, that very question is approached with deadpan comedy. There’s also the interesting game play loop of being able to flip between the land of the dead and the living to help out errant ghosts. Rest in peace they said, yeah right.

The Cycle

This one looks stunning. The Cycle is an FPS PvP multiplayer game where players take part in 20 minute matches competing with other players to complete contracts as fast as possible. Contracts seem to range from exotic resources to alien monsters. There’s a final frontier vibe to the whole thing; an unexplored world, untold dangers, and a planet devoid of law and order. Intriguing to say the least. Imagine Fortnite meets No Man’s Sky, an unlikely coupling, but one that may very well work. You can sign up for the beta here.
