Summer Games Done Quick 2018 Is Live Now

If you’re a fan of speedruns than this week will be one of the most entertaining weeks all year long. The Summer Games Done Quick has kicked off again and will be going on for a full week. The event is the summer version of Awesome Games Done Quick and all proceeds from the event will be donated to a charity selected by the organization. This year, Doctors Without Borders.

There are two Games Done Quick events every year, and they always feature a stellar lineup of some of the best speedrunners in the world. They showcase a huge number of different games at the event as it is running all day and night. The games are also played in different categories. These are things like completing the game 100% or not using any glitches. These categories could mean that a game could be played 2 or 3 times at the event but every time would still be completely different.

I am personally not a huge fan of speedrunning but often tune into the event anyway, and urge others to do the same. I often let is run somewhere in the background but if they’re playing a game that I’m interested in, I might follow it more closely. If you’re a big fan of speedrunning but have missed some of your favorite runs, then check out the official YouTube channel as every run will be uploaded.

The amount of skill on display is absolutely incredible and the speedrunners explain everything that’s going on quite well so that even speedrunner noobs can understand why certain actions are performed. Although the event is organized for charity, the runners still take it very seriously and sometimes even break records. Despite this the organization also organizes some less serious speedruns where they play with 2 people, blindfold the runners or even some of the worst games that have ever been made.

The charity that the money is going to, Doctors Without Borders, is a charity that is focused on providing medical care to poverty-stricken and dangerous regions that need medical care more than any other place in the world. Last  Games Done Quick raised more than $2.25 million for the Prevent Cancer Foundation but it would be awesome if that number would be even higher this time.
