Often compared to a GTA-style game with an anime theme, Ananta, developed by Naked Rain in collaboration with publisher NetEase, has gained significant popularity and captured widespread attention since its initial reveal in 2023.
The game’s existence has apparently regained popularity after two trailers were released a few days ago. Moreover, Ananta also succeeded in winning the Future Division award at the 2025 Japan Game Awards, which was part of the Tokyo Game Show.
For your information, the Future Division is an award given to a highly anticipated upcoming game. The winner is determined through direct voting by attendees of The Game Awards 2025.
Several other games such as Resident Evil Requiem, Ghost of Yotei, Digimon Story: Time Stranger, Nioh 3, Pragmata, and some additional titles also received these awards.
What is Ananta?
As previously mentioned, many players anticipate that Ananta will feature gameplay elements similar to those in GTA, with exploring the city and engaging in activities within a large urban environment being its main highlights.
Based on various trailers and information that have been circulated, it appears that the game features a wide range of gameplay elements drawn from several popular titles. These include combat mechanics similar to the Batman: Arkham series, Sleeping Dogs, and Sifu, as well as the use of a symbiote-like network for fighting and swinging around, reminiscent of Marvel’s Spider-Man.
However, what might be the most interesting and unusual aspect is how the content is monetized. While many free-to-play anime-themed games rely on character gacha systems to generate revenue, Ananta takes a different approach by monetizing customization options.
These include cosmetics for characters, vehicles, and even houses and their furnishings. It will be intriguing to see whether this type of monetization proves more effective or if it has drawbacks compared to traditional methods.
There is no concrete information yet regarding the official release date of Ananta. However, it is expected that the game will be launched for PC, PlayStation 5, iOS, and Android platforms.
