The popularity of Hasbro’s TCG IP, Magic: The Gathering, has become undeniable. Not only has it expanded into the digital CCG game called Magic: The Gathering Arena, but Hasbro also seems to have aspirations to broaden the franchise’s reach into television entertainment.
Legendary Entertainment to Produce Magic: The Gathering Movie and TV Series

If you’re a movie enthusiast, you’re likely familiar with Legendary Entertainment. They’re the studio behind major blockbusters like Christopher Nolan’s Batman Trilogy and Pacific Rim, as well as video game adaptations such as Detective Pikachu and the upcoming Minecraft film.
Thanks to that success, Hasbro seems confident that the production studio is worthy of being entrusted with managing the film and TV series adaptations of their popular IP, Magic: The Gathering.
According to Deadline, the partnership between Hasbro and Legendary is set to produce a TV series, feature films, and a variety of other content as they expand their cinematic universe.
Hasbro executive Zev Foreman mentioned that the Magic: The Gathering intellectual property has introduced an epic world development and creative storytelling. Combined with Legendary’s expertise, which has worked on other major IPs, they are able to collaborate in building the Magic universe through films and series.
Responding to Fans’ Long-standing Requests

It’s undeniable that Magic fans have been eagerly anticipating an adaptation of the Planeswalkers’ stories and the multiverse for many years. Despite several attempts and failures to launch a TV series project, many fans have grown doubtful about the success of bringing the M:TG narrative to life as a series or movie.
With the increasing popularity of the Magic IP, it’s quite possible that Hasbro is now confident about the reception from fans. The challenge lies in how they can craft this world, with its over 30-year history, into a story worth watching rather than just cheap fanservice.
