Nintendo Dominates List Of Top Selling Exclusives Since 1995

The NPD Group does a lot of market research for the gaming industry and one of their analysts, Matt Piscatella, has shared an interesting list of the top 10 selling exclusives since 1995. Surprisingly, Nintendo completely dominated the chart!

As pointed out by IGN, Piscatella shared on Twitter the aforementioned post.

As you can see, the top 10 best selling exclusives are all Nintendo:

  1. Wii Fit
  2. Wii Play
  3. Mario Kart Wii
  4. Wii Fit Plus
  5. New Super Mario Bros. Wii
  6. New Super Mario Bros. DS
  7. Mario Kart DS
  8. Super Mario 64
  9. Super Smash Bros. Brawl
  10. Wii Sports Resort

While Sony generally outsells Nintendo in terms of consoles, including their current PS4 vs. the Switch, Nintendo has long been the system to buy for its exclusives. It’s not uncommon to hear people saying they’re waiting for a specific exclusive before pulling the trigger on a Nintendo system.

What’s particularly shocking about this list is that I would’ve thought that at least one Zelda title would’ve made the top 10 and it seems a bit strange for the fitness games to rank so highly. Regarding the latter, if the Wii fitness related games performed so well, it’s extremely bizarre that Nintendo didn’t release a follow up to the series with the release of the Switch. Four of the top ten titles on the list are Wii fitness related games!

Given the hype behind the upcoming Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and considering the fact that its director Masahiro Sakurai said that it would be the last title in the series, it will be interesting to see if the game is capable of edging out one of the titles on the list to secure its own spot in the top 10. We’re only days away before its release, so it won’t be long before we can find out for ourselves if is truly deserving of all the hype.
