Toronto Defiant Revealed As Newest Member Of The Overwatch League

The Toronto Overwatch team has finally revealed their name; Toronto Defiant. The name was chosen to resemble the resiliency of the people living in Toronto. Hopefully, the team itself will be just as resilient when playing in the OWL as some good competition always makes for some fun matches.

The team name, as well as its logo and team colors, were revealed at an event in downtown Toronto. The owner of the team, Chris Overholt, had to say the following on launching the new esports team. “We are thrilled to be celebrating the launch of the Toronto Defiant today in the best way we know how, side-by-side with our fans. We have a clear vision to build a world-class professional esports company in Toronto that will excite and inspire a new generation of fans in our market, across Canada, and around the globe. Branding work was done in partnership with the Overwatch League and Toronto-based Diamond Marketing, recently announced as OverActive’s agency of record. The team name, Defiant, was picked to represent the strength, character, and resiliency of Toronto, and the logo features a powerful combination of red, black, white, and grey.”

Obviously, the red, black, white, and grey color palette that they have chosen looks absolutely fantastic but doesn’t feel extremely new considering that the new Atlanta team that was recently revealed is practically using the exact same palette. Hopefully, teams revealed in the future will use color palettes that we have not yet seen in the Overwatch League as that would add some originality.

Although all the branding stuff for Toronto Defiant has been revealed there is not yet any word on the roster that they will field. However, Beoumjun “Bishop” Lee has already been announced as the head coach and the team has also already acquired staff that will support the head coach. Furthermore, Toronto Defiant states that they have confidence in creating a strong roster as the team is backed by esports organization Splyce who have a lot of experience in creating world-class rosters.

You can find more information on Toronto Defiant by heading over to their Twitter page or by reading the press release that was released through the Overwatch League website.
