Mario Kart 8 Gets Update Making It Compatible With Nintendo Labo

The Nintendo Labo is one of the most innovative products to hit the gaming market in a very long time. I really love the whole concept of taking bits of cardboard and combining it with the Switch to create brand new ways of enjoying the device. Here’s some great news for my other Labo fans: Nintendo has actually just added a new update to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe allowing players to play the game through the Toy-con Motorbike creation that’s part of the Labo Variety Kit

Pretty cool eh? The idea behind it reminds me a lot of the steering wheel controller that you could use with Mario Kart for the Wii. For those of you who need a memory refresher, it was basically a plastic steering wheel that you could plug the Wii remote into. In reality, it was a bit of a challenge to use, but was a fun addition nonetheless. I’m guessing that the Labo’s interaction with Mario Kart 8 will be quite similar.

I’m really happy to see that Nintendo is adding more official ways to use the Labo with current Switch titles and am eager to see what new games will be compatible with it in the future. The Nintendo Labo truly seems to have limitless possibilities, and if you’re still feeling skeptical, you don’t have to take my word for it. If you missed this awesome article from last month, check out how Jimmy Fallon and Ariana Grande performed “No Tears Left To Cry” completely through the use of Labo-inspired musical instruments.
