In honor of the 25th anniversary of cult real-time strategy franchise Command & Conquer, EA has revealed it is looking into remastering the classic PC games.
As revealed in a reddit post authored by Jim Vessella, EA producer on Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars, Red Alert 3, and Kane’s Wrath, the studio is ‘exploring some exciting ideas regarding remastering the classic PC games, and already have the ball rolling on our first effort to celebrate the upcoming 25th Year Anniversary’.
Vessella explains that following the E3 reveal of mobile only micro-transaction money grab Command & Conquer: Rivals, EA ‘heard you loud and clear: the Comm and & Conquer community also wants to see the franchise return to PC’. Short of a brand new entry, EA is honing in on the idea of remastering the classics. With all the might of modern day tech and the heightened capacity of consumer machines, we can expect 4K glory and the usual beautification treatment
Further on, Vessella welcomes fan feedback on what direction EA should take. Such a move suggests EA may divert away from the tried and tested remastering model and rely on the fan base to shape the games. He says, ‘We are eager to hear your feedback to help influence our current thoughts for PC and what comes next. Over the next few weeks we’ll be talking to fans in a variety of ways. In the meantime, please share your thoughts here on the subreddit.’
For those among us who fell head over heels for the tactical wonder of the original Command & Conquer games, Command & Conquer: Rivals was a low blow from EA and seen by most as a move to capitalize on the ever expanding popularity of mobile gaming. News that EA has well and truly heard what players want is very welcome in that respect.
