Ubisoft announced in late August 2025 that they will be releasing downloadable content (DLC) for Assassin’s Creed Mirage. The upcoming content will include new story elements, missions, historical locations such as Al-‘Ula, and some gameplay improvements.

Recently, there have been reports that the DLC for the game has caused concern among the Ubisoft development team.

Reasons Why the Assassin’s Creed Mirage DLC Sparks Concerns Within Ubisoft

During an exclusive Q&A interview session with Game File featuring Ubisoft employees, numerous intriguing details about the Assassin’s Creed Mirage DLC were revealed. One notable piece of information involved reports that the downloadable content received funding from the Public Investment Fund (PIF) of the Saudi Arabian government

.

According to the information gathered, an employee at Ubisoft inquired with the management team whether they believed partnering with Saudi Arabia was the right decision. This question was related to the incident involving the murder and dismemberment of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

He believes that this could potentially damage Ubisoft’s reputation. Additionally, Ubisoft employees feel that the company’s partnership with the Saudi Arabian government might limit their creativity.

Ubisoft has clarified that their employees involved in developing the Assassin’s Creed Mirage DLC are still granted creative freedom. This is because they have collaborated with several relevant parties in creating the DLC, which includes the ancient site of Al-‘Ula. The goal is to ensure that the in-game content accurately reflects the region’s true historical background.

Partnership Between Ubisoft and Professional Parties

It has been announced that Yves Guillemot, the CEO of Ubisoft, visited Saudi Arabia to discuss and promote the downloadable content (DLC) for Assassin’s Creed Mirage. This game will feature the city of Al-ʿUla, which is known as an ancient cultural site and a significant archaeological location in Saudi Arabia.

Ubisoft aims to ensure that players can enjoy the city of Al-‘Ula, a place rich in history and culture from Saudi Arabia. They hope that gamers will appreciate the new region included in the AC Mirage DLC, as their team collaborated with archaeology experts who are knowledgeable about the area’s history and understand the significance of Al-‘Ula.
