Koei Tecmo Prohibits Fans from Sending Valentine’s Gifts to Staff or Fictional Characters

A unique phenomenon in the Japanese video game industry that might not be well-known internationally is how fans express their affection for fictional characters. One popular way they do this is by sending romantic gifts to the game’s developers on Valentine’s Day.

Unfortunately, in recent years, this tradition has been restricted due to various security reasons. For instance, Koei Tecmo recently issued an official statement

that they will also refuse all forms of Valentine’s and White Day gifts in 2025.

This policy also applies to other developers under Koei Tecmo, such as Team Ninja, Omega Force, and Gust.

It might not be very surprising

There’s no denying that Koei Tecmo is currently one of the leading developers when it comes to creating visually appealing and captivating character designs. Therefore, it’s not surprising that many fans have fallen in love with their fictional characters.

Here are a few examples: the Dead or Alive series, which features beautiful female characters; the strong and handsome men from the Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors franchises; and the cute and charming characters from the Atelier series.

Furthermore, Koei Tecmo expressed their gratitude for the sentiment of wanting to give the gift, and they promised to continue working diligently to release a variety of exciting new content in the future.

So, what are your thoughts on this matter? Are you also a fan who often falls in love with fictional characters and dreams of marrying them? Feel free to share your opinion in the comments section!
