Xbox’s raucous X018 event aside, this week has been pretty tame when it comes to trailers, but we’ve managed to uncover the best of the rest. This week we’ve got a gorgeous Norwegian sleuthing adventure, a hand drawn game about break dancing, a fun typing game, and more.

Little Misfortune

Little Misfortune is a rather unusual interactive story where the end goal is eternal happiness. As titular 8-year old character Misfortune Ramirez Hernandez, players interact with a narrator a la The Stanley Parable to solve mysteries in the quest to bring eternal happiness to Misfortune’s mother. Little Misfortune seems to breach the fourth wall and is well aware of itself as video game, setting it up for a strange, enjoyable experience.

Astroneer

Whimsical space exploration game, Astroneer, has finally been stamped with a release date set for February 6th of next year. The game’s been in early access for some time now, but with February’s 1.0 update it becomes a fully fledged release with even more planets to explore and an overall polished feel. If you’ve yet to try Astroneer, we can’t recommend it enough.

Degrees of Separation

Degrees of Separation channels the classic platforming format as it weaves the story of two opposed characters, Ember and Rime, one bestowed with the power of hot and the other cold. Puzzles are solved by making use of both characters simultaneously to reach seemingly inaccessible places and overcome obstacles. As the two characters navigate the gorgeous 2D world, they become ever closer and from there an emotive story evolves. Release is set for February 14th next year.

Draugen

Set among stunning Norwegian Fjord, Draugen touts itself as s ‘first-person Fjord Noir mystery’ with sleuthing work and exploration as the main mechanics. We don’t know much else as it stands, but Draugen sure is a looker. The protagonists cheeky grin is enough to get us interested and eager for more.

My Time At Portia

Pathea Games’ glorious workshop crafting, farming, and mining game My Time At Portia has received a brand new trailer in anticipation of release on PlayStation 4, on a still as yet unspecified date. My Time At Portia has been in early access in coming to a year now and already features well over 25 hours of content. Inspired by Harvest Moon, Stardew Valley, and even a smattering of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, My Time At Portia is a soothing, wholesome experience if you’re looking for something to relax to.

The Textorcist

The Textorcist can be described as a frantic typing, semi-religious, RPG with a dose of MetroidVania. As an exorcist, the player must type to defeat demons and complete contracts to rid people of an errant demonic outbreak. Irreverent and unique, we aren’t quite sure what to expect from The Textorcist, but we sure are intrigued.

Floor Kids

As you’ll gather from the opening part of the trailer, Floor Kids has garnered quite the selection of awards for its unique take on the dancing game concept. Focused on break-dancing, players dance to earn points, which then grant access to new characters, venues, music, and dance moves. The hand drawn style suits the subject matter perfectly and the game overall looks pretty damn fun.
