The Game Awards Nominees Officially Announced, Voting Open

The time of year is upon us when the gaming industry converges in a self-congratulatory coterie at The Game Awards to celebrate the finest and brightest games from the past twelve months.

The event, hosted by the enigmatic Geoff Keighley, is scheduled for December 6th and is touted as the biggest edition yet. The 2018 Game Awards will be broadcast for free on over 40 streaming platforms (including Twitch, YouTube, Facebook & Mixer) and feature exclusive new game announcements from major AAA publishers. The stream kicks off at 5h30 pm PST, 1h30 am GMT, and 9h30am Beijing Time.

Last year’s edition turned into a meme fest of epic proportions, notably due to the now infamous rant from Way Out director Josef Fares, and we sure hope this year’s edition coughs up its share of moments, especially as Hideo Kojima and Todd Howard are primed to make an appearance.

The nominees for the plethora of categories were revealed yesterday and voting is now officially open. To get involved you can cast your vote over on The Game Awards website

and on Discord, Twitter, and the like. To absolutely no one’s surprise, Red Dead Redemption 2, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, and God of War lead the pack in multiple categories. Red Dead 2 and God of War alone are nominated in eight different categories.

This year’s 30 categories are, deep breath; Game of the Year, Best Ongoing Game, Best Game Direction, Best Narrative, Best Art Direction, Best Score/Music, Best Audio Design, Best Performance, Games For Impact, Best independent Game, Best Mobile Game, Best VR/AR Game, Best Action Game, Best Action/Adventure Game, Best Role Playing Game, Best Fighting Game, Best Family Game, Best Strategy Game, Best Sports/Racing Game, Best Multiplayer Game, Best Student Game, Best Debut Indie Game, Best eSports Game, Best eSports Player, Best eSports Team, Best eSports Coach, Best eSports Event, Best eSports Host, Best eSports Moment, and Content Creator of the Year.
