Warner Bros. has dropped the first official teaser trailer for upcoming live action Pokemon-inspired movie, Pokemon: Detective Pikachu, with a disconcertingly life-like rendition of Pikachu voiced by none other than Ryan Reynolds of Deadpool fame.
Pokemon: Detective Pikachu is penciled in for worldwide cinema release on May 10th next year and features a star studded cast other than the aforementioned Ryan Reynolds, including Justice Smith, Kathryn Newton, and Ken Watanabe. As for the plot, the movie follows the story of Tim, son of renowned sleuth Harry Goodman, who’s mysterious disappearance remains an enigma. Tim realizes he can understand and talk to Pokemon after a frightful encounter with everyone’s favorite Pokemon, Pikachu, who turns out to be Goodman’s former partner in crime-solving. From there, mirth and adventure flows forth in the city of Ryme where Pokemon and humans live alongside one another in, almost, perfect harmony. As expected, the investigation leads them to darker truths that could unhinge the fragile co-existence between the adorably furry Pokemon and humans.
Look closely and quite a few Pokemon make an appearance in the trailer including Charmander, Pikachu, Jigglypuff, and the adorably mischievous Mr. Mime who’s sure to be a highlight of the final product.
The whole Pokemon phenomenon having swept over me in a wave of indifference, I was surprisingly rather taken by the trailer. Pokemon: Detective Pokemon looks incredibly fun and the crossover into live-action isn’t as creepy as one would expect.
