Same place, same time every week. Yes, we’re here again for our weekly trailer round-up. On offer this week is a pretty nifty live action trailer, fresh Death Stranding goodness, Telltale’s final salvo, and more. Shall we begin?
Frotstpunk’s latest free expansion gets a story trailer and as theorized the new scenario tells the tale of the fated Winterhome settlement’s frigid demise. A story of risk, survival, and last chances. I felt cold just watching it. The Fall of Winterhome is out now if you’re tempted by chilly city building.
The MISSING: J.J. Macfield and the Island of Memories takes the crown for the strangest entry in this week’s round-up by far. It’s the latest effort from the people behind Deadly Premonition
Kojima’s latest Tokyo Game Show trailer didn’t disappoint, seeming to introduce a main antagonist from Death Stranding. Sporting a golden mask and played by Troy Baker, of Joel from The Last of Us fame, The Man In The Golden Mask harnesses the power of the black water spectres to conjure up a four-legged feline monstrosity with squirming tentacles emanating in place of a mane. Interestingly, Mask man is equipped with the same baby-in-a-yellow-vessel gear and jittery shoulder drone as main character Norman Reedus. As the weeks progress, we’re sure internet sleuth will uncover even more secrets in the trailer. We’re talking about Kojima after all.
Neverout is a VR puzzler with a smattering of Portal DNA coursing through it’s aesthetic though with a darker, broodier complexion. There’s not much to go on at the moment as it’s just been announced though we know players will have to navigate a labyrinthine set of never ending cubes packed with shifting puzzles and environmental hazards.
This weekend’s mournful news of Telltale Games’ imminent demise shouldn’t darken what is set to be the excellent continuation of The Walking Dead series. As the last entry, fans will savor it in a very different way to past episodes in light of the news and the trailer does well to get those hype-receptors nice and tingling.
What’s a week without a good old point and click adventure. This time we have My Brother Rabbit, a whimsical, yet heartbreaking hand drawn adventure about the world a child imagines while confined to a hospital bed. There’s some Alice In Wonderland thrown in there, mind-conjuring elks, flying bikes, underwater realms, penguins that live in freezers, and more playful characters.
I usually cower at the thought of a live action trailer for a video game, but this time around Ubisoft have pulled out all the stops and produced something really rather good. Borrowing from the infamous Trainspotting ‘Choose Life’ sequence, the trailer depicts a fast-paced, parkour-aided jaunt through Ancient Greece with clever references to the voice over notably when it comes to teeth, friends, and DIY. Well done Ubisoft.
