Sony To Release Their Own Mini Version Of The Original Playstation

In a move straight out of Nintendo’s playbook, Sony announced earlier that they will be releasing a “mini” version of their original PlayStation console that will come pre-installed with 20 retro games. Considering how sought after both the Nintendo and Super Nintendo Classics were, by now it’s no surprise that retro sells. Sony’s decision is an obvious attempt to capitalize on that.

Sony has yet to reveal the full line-up of preinstalled games, but did give away several big name titles that will definitely be making an appearance on the system.

  2. Jumping Flash
  3. Ridge Racer Type 4
  4. Tekken 3
  5. Wild Arms

What’s interesting about the design of this mini console is that despite the fact you won’t need to purchase a memory card accessory as in the original system, Sony kept the memory card slot as part of the design.

Along with the unit itself, the PlayStation Classic will also come with two USB controllers and an HDMI cable. It’s set to be released on December 3 for $99.99 USD, right in time for the holiday season.

Sony also released a short trailer showcasing the reimagined console which you can check out below.
