Yesterday, Sony hosted the PlayStation Lineup showcase, a kind of very early Tokyo Game Show warm up session (these seem to happen earlier and earlier each year regardless of whether it’s E3 or Gamescom). As expected, much fuss was made about a bunch of new titles set to hit the Japanese market and beyond in the not too distant future. We also got our first look at a batch of until now unannounced games. Here are the ten most important announcements from Sony’s showcase.
From the creators of Yakuza, Judge Eyes is a judiciary detective game that packs action with private eye activities such as sleuthing around town photographing and tracking criminals, playing absurd mini-games, and engaging in dirty street fights with anyone that stands in your way.
A new bombastic entry in SNK’s Samurai Shodown (no typo) series, Samurai Spirits is a sword based fighting game set in feudal Japan.
Pretty self explanatory; a VR version of the popular Everybody’s Golf game set for release in Japan late 2019.
Developed by Cygames, Project Awakening is a medieval fantasy action RPG which packs a serious amount of intrigue with a battle between a knight of some sort and a fierce looking scaled drag on. Not much out there about Project Awakening, but it looks extremely polished with sleek combat mechanics and a gorgeously detailed world to hopefully explore. One to keep a close eye on moving forward.
Not much to go on for this one due to a rather cryptic trailer, other than it’s based on the anime of the same name. Releases late 2019.
Announced at last year’s TGS, Left Alive returns this year with a more indepth trailer. Square Enix are behind the futuristic shooter, which is set in the same universe as the Front Mission games. We’ve go three intertwined stories, mechs, prisons, and a signature Japanese action feel.
Kingdom Hearts double whammy with a Big Hero 6 reveal for Kingdom Hearts 3 and Kingdom Hearts VR Experience, which appears to include a number of elements from various games from the series adapted for VR.
Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles left field RPG antics are being remastered for Switch and PlayStation 4 for release in 2019. More Final Fantasy is always a good thing, yet surely there are better entries to remaster. Just saying.
Another one from Square Enix and its Studio Istolia, Project Prelude Rune as it’s currently known seems pulled straight out of studio Ghibli flic and features, from what we can glean from the bare-bones trailer, an open-world JRPG. Super pretty.
From Software’s Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice returns have a strong showing at Gamescom. More stunning shots of sword wielding battles and stealth, as well as creatures drawn from Japanese mythology. Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice looks incredibly as it stands, but we have to wait until sometimes in 2019 for release.
