We’ve known for a couple of weeks that developer Treyarch are planning a beta for the Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 battle royale mode Blackout sometime in September. Hot on the heels of this weekend’s multiplayer beta, publisher Activision raised its head above the parapet to announce late yesterday that the Blackout beta will run from September 10th.
In a similar fashion to the multiplayer beta, PlayStation 4 owners get first dibs on September 10th with other platforms likely to get a chance soon afterwards, though no firm details have been communicated as of right now.
From a short announcement trailer posted on the official Call of Duty twitter handle, beta players will be able to dive in solo, as part of a duo, and a squad of four. This is very much in keeping with established Battle Royale norms and matches up with what Treyarch have revealed so far.
As for what Blackout entails, we remain as much in the dark as before other than knowing it will be heavily vehicle focused and inject a unique Call of Duty
In further Blackout beta news, Treyarch confirmed on Reddit that the client used for the multiplayer beta will also host the Blackout beta, meaning players who’ve already received an invite this past weekend are guaranteed access in September. Players won’t need to download the game files again either, other than a presumably much smaller Blackout patch. We expect more details to surface as the date approaches.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 releases on October 12th only a short few weeks after the Blackout beta. As you’ve probably guessed, the usually trifecta of PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox are the launch day supported platforms.
