Sony Unveils Limited Edition PS4 Pro

Sony is celebrating the fact they’ve sold over 500 million PlayStation units by releasing a special edition PS4 Pro. Eric Lempel, the senior vice president of PlayStation Worldwide Marketing, stated in an official blog post that Sony has actually sold more than 525.3 million Playstations worldwide! Here’s a video trailer announcing this accomplishment and showcasing the limited edition PS4.

The super cool translucent blue PS4 Pro comes with a “matching Dualshock 4 wireless controller, PlayStation camera, Vertical Stand, and mono headset.”  The hard drive is 2 TB. 

The limited edition unit will be priced at $499.99 USD. Sony intends to release only 50,000 units worldwide, so it might not be easy getting your hands on one. The console will also have a commemorative copper plate on the front with its limited edition serial number. To make things even crazier, Sony is hyping up specific serial numbers that reflect individual release dates of different PlayStation systems. Here are two examples noted in the blog post:

09995 (U.S. Launch Date of the original PlayStation – September 9th, 1995)

01115 (U.S. launch date of PS4 – November 15, 2013)

The launch date for this limited edition PS4 will be August 24th. Sony’s blog post indicates that this page will announce participating vendors, however the info hasn’t yet been added.
