With Fortnite’s Season 5 upon us, a lot has changed for the battle royal title including a revamp of multiple areas on the island, a new vehicle, and teleportation through those mysterious rifts which appeared earlier this month.
Following the discovery of the Durr Burger in the desert, Season 5 not only sees the mascot return to the map, but a whole portion of the Californian desert has appeared in the far southeastern corner of the map in a dry, arid, and dusty new biome. Moisty Mire is now known as Paradise Palms and offers a new maze of rock faces, rivers, and a highway snaking through the area. You can also spot brand new objects such as a purple dinosaur. The race track has also had somewhat of a face lift probably in line with the introduction of the new vehicle.
Anarchy Acres has ceded the north central chunk of the map to the new Lazy Links golf course. In addition, Dusty Divot is now verdant with trees and a viking-style settlement decked out with a Nordic hall is to be found atop the peak in proximity to Snobby Shores.
Other than the shopping cart, Fortnite
As for the rifts scattered across the map, mainly in the desert biome, walk through them to be teleported back into the sky above your location and skydive/glide back down to the ground. You can even drive through them with the shopping cart and kart. Note that the rifts will despawn after use.
The patch notes also include a host of quality of life improvements such as an smoother UI, underwater view, a refreshed Victory Royale winner screen, and auto-apply skin selection rather than the tedious ‘save and exit’ feature from Season 4. As expected, there are new cosmetic items such as a new dab emote, new toys, and skins. You can peruse the full patch notes over an Epic’s web site.
