It seems like just yesterday retailers were stocking the shelves with the latest edition of EA’s monolithic FIFA franchise. Yet, here we are again on the threshold of FIFA 19 birthing into the world with great fanfare for adoring fans of the beautiful game to try their best to replicate the marvels of their favorite millionaire ball kickers.
Ahead of FIFA 19 releasing on September 28th, EA has been kind enough to cook up a demo for us to sample this year’s delights and changes, of which they are a few notably ones including the continuation of Alex Hunter’s path to stardom in The Journey and significant gameplay tweaks like timed finishing, real-time dynamic tactics, and the new active touch system set to revamp control of your chosen 11-man squad.
The demo is up for download for PlayStation 4 owners from this Thursday September 13th. 10 clubs selected from the biggest sides in European Football are playable in the new UEFA Champions League mode (with appropriate commentary and visuals to boot); Manchester United, Manchester City, Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain, Tottenham Hotspurs, Borussia Dortmund, Juventus, Real Madrid, Roma, and Atletico Madrid.
A first glimpse of the next chapter in The Journey also features in the demo, returning with all the usual trimmings such as dialogue choices, character customization, and for the first time new playable characters. Alex Hunter whethers a transfer to Real Madrid, while his half-sister Kim and best bud Danny move forward with their own respective stories. You’ll also get to meet a star studded selection of players from Gareth Bale to Kevin De Bruyne and everyone’s favorite diving diva, Neymar Jr.
A pretty meaty offering for a demo it must be said, with the main objective being to introduce players to the gameplay changes mentioned above. Given Konami’s lackluster effort with PES 19, FIFA 19 may very well prove to be this year’s footballing redemption story.
