According to this pretty cool article, IGN had a chance to chat with Henry Cavill at a recent junket for “Mission Impossible – Fallout” where he expressed his interest in playing Geralt from “The Witcher 3.” T he conversation came about with IGN asking him what he was currently playing. Cavill, who famously failed to answer the call from Zack Snyder
Following that line of thought, IGN asked him if he would be interested in playing Geralt in the announced Netflix adaptation to which he responded, “Absolutely. Yeah, that would be an amazing role.”
Cavill even seems to have already done some homework, having read Andrzej Sapkowski’s fantasy novels – the source material for the Witcher franchise. Regarding this, Cavill said, “The books are amazing. The books are really, really good… the books I started reading, and they are well worth a read.”
The Netflix Witcher series, announced in May, will be adapting Sapkowski’s eight novels. According to Screenrant, casting for Geralt and Yennefer was already in process at the end of June. Whether or not Cavill still has a chance at the role is completely up in the air. While Cavill is a solid choice for the role, there are quite a few great actors who could also be a good fit for Geralt.
My personal top pick? Mads Mikkelsen. I mean, just take a look at this photoshop job from Intertainment Magazine and it becomes easy to see why he would be the best choice for Geralt.
