Hideki Kamiya, the creator of the game Bayonetta, is renowned for developing popular titles such as Bayonetta. The game features a character named Bayonetta, who is depicted as beautiful, elegant, and attractive, always wearing a pair of glasses as part of her signature look.
Surprisingly, the glasses worn by Bayonetta were once requested by a client to be removed from the game. Kamiya immediately firmly refused this request.
Bayonetta’s Glasses Requested to Be Removed by the Client, Hideki Kamiya Refuses
This situation all started from a fan’s question posted on social media, addressed to the game creator Hideki Kamiya, in celebration of the 16th anniversary of Bayonetta. In the tweet, a user with the handle @magchan360 on X (formerly Twitter) asked Kamiya about an old interview discussing the glasses worn by Bayonetta in the game.
During the interview, she recalls one of the developers making a comment about how it would be great if she just took off her glasses. She wasn’t sure who responded, but the developer’s reply was that the glasses worn by Bayonetta cannot be removed.
Then, Kamiya immediately responded to the fan’s question. He clarified that the statement came from Yuji Shimomura, who serves as the Animation Director for Bayonetta and was responsible for the cinematic animations in the game.
Reason Why the Glasses Cannot Be Removed
Kamiya explained at that time, a client requested to have Bayonetta’s glasses taken off, which she was wearing while her team was working on designing the protagonist character. However, the request was firmly refused by Kamiya, even after the client kept asking repeatedly.
Kamiya also shared a statement made by Yuji Shimomura, who compared Bayonetta’s glasses to her underwear, implying that she should never be without them. He clarified that the well-known phrase within the community is indeed true, as the Animation Director of Bayonetta reportedly mentioned this during an interview.
When designing Bayonetta, there was a request from the client to remove her glasses. However, I consistently declined this request.
