A fascinating topic within the community of the anime-style horse girl racing simulation game — Umamusume: Pretty Derby, developed by Cygames for the global market, is the issue of the character Haru Urara, who is often thought to be unable to win the Arima Kinen race.

As a brief context, Urara excels in basic stats on Dirt-type tracks (without grass) and Sprint (short) courses, while the Arima Kinen features Turf-type tracks (with grass) and Long (long-distance) courses. In her Career Goals, Urara is required to participate in the Arima Kinen track, even if it means finishing in the last position.

This is certainly feasible on the Japanese server of Umamusume: Pretty Derby, which has been available since 2021 and has introduced a greater variety of Support Cards and Umamusume (the term for playable characters in the game). The lack of relevant Umamusume and Support Cards makes the effort to win with Urara in the Arima Kinen often considered impossible on the global server.

Winning the Arima Kinen is not the ultimate goal for Urarara, as the current scenario is focused on winning the URA Finals. Nevertheless, for the community, this presents its own unique challenge.

However, who would have thought that within almost three weeks since the game’s global release, there are already two players who have managed to bring fame to Haru Urara at the Arima Kinen.

Do you need to become a whaler?

At the time this article was published, a player known by the nickname Yarase Toro was recognized as the first to achieve this seemingly impossible feat. Through his YouTube channel, he showcased a video featuring Urara winning the Arima Kinen track along with her concert performance.

However, it’s important to note that Yarase identifies as a whaler, which in the context of gacha games refers to individuals who are willing to spend large amounts of money to speed up their game progress. As shown at the 3:35 mark in the video above, all the Support Cards he uses have been fully maxed out.

It appears that the veteran Umamusume, often referred to as Legacy, has reached Rank A. It is likely that it successfully passed on the Turf and Long bonuses to Urara to minimize any stat penalties during the Arima Kinen race.

Even non-whalers can achieve this

The next player who has accomplished this feat goes by the name mateus186. Despite being known as the second to do so, his name deserves recognition because he managed to win with Urara in the Arima Kinen, even though he is not a whaler.

Through a post on Reddit, he shared that he had conducted numerous experiments and failed repeatedly, which left him frustrated and nearly ready to give up. However, he mentioned, “Haru Urara never gave up, so neither will I.”

He also shared some screenshots of the Spark inherited from his own Umamusume Veteran and the Support Card used. This might serve as a reference for those of you who want to do something similar.

It is clear that the only card that can be fully upgraded to the maximum level is the Special Week (Speed) card. This card can be obtained simply by participating in and completing missions during the Dashing Towards Your Dreams event, which has already concluded.

Next, something that might catch your attention is that the inherited Spark only boosts the Turf stat to Rank B and the Long stat to Rank C. This means that Urara can still win the Arima Kinen despite receiving a performance penalty of -10% for Turf and -20% for Long.

Furthermore, mateus186 also noted that the element of RNG (Random Number Generator), or simply luck, plays a significant role in his efforts. As a result, other players might not achieve the same outcomes, even if their builds are nearly identical to or even surpass what is shown in the previous image.

This may also be due to the fact that the character Urara has successfully captured the hearts of many players worldwide. This is largely thanks to her cheerful and persistent personality, similar to the real-life horse that inspired her. As a result, many players are determined to see Urara win at the Arima Kinen.

This situation has led to a surge of interest in visiting the real Haru Urara at her farm. However, due to limited reservations, some Japanese netizens have recommended showing appreciation in other ways, such as making donations either directly to the farm or through a vendor that will provide high-quality grass to accompany Urara in her retirement days.

Talking about visiting real horses, Cygames has issued a series of suggestions and guidelines intended to ensure that visits are comfortable and orderly while also adhering to applicable regulations.
